Are blog posts meant to be written fast?
Are blog posts meant to be written fast? I agonize over mine!I consider them letters to you, all my dearest Internet friends. When I write it is from the same anxious feeling that sits in my stomach before a first date, when I am intrigued by the hot tinder profile picture interesting text message banter and know I want to make a good first impression so I frantically read the newspaper headlines while putting on enough bronzer to intimidate an MTV deejay some classy red lipstick. Case in point, in 7 minutes all I have written is the above. So, for my first attempt at rapidfire (10 20 minute!) blogging-here goes: 5 Quick, Moderately Interesting…
Best Mother’s Day Advice
Here’s the best Mother’s Day Advice I can give you: DON’T GO TO BRUNCHNOOOO BRUNCHABSOLUTELY DO NOT GO TO BRUNCH As a former waitress, I beg you, I IMPLORE YOU DO. NOT. GO. TO. BRUNCH. Here’s why: You know that sad, busy, picked-over feeling that last day of the semi-annual shoe sale at Saks–when people are shopping but there’s nothing good left so they are half-heartedly fighting over last year’s two-tone Manolo sandals? Mother’s Day brunch in a restaurant is like if that experience were happening in a restaurant. In hell. And instead of shoes people were fighting over the last mimosa and who’s stupid idea it was…
Mercado Anton Martin
Today I went and explored at Mercado Anton Martin on Calle Atocha in Madrid. For me, this activity checked several boxes. First, if you read my last post about cooking dinner, you know I have been searching for something to eat besides the olives in my vodka some culinary inspiration. Second, I’m always trying to eat-healthy-live-healthy-breathe-healthy. (Not trying hard, mind you. But trying. And a market where people are drinking red wine, eating cheese and gossiping in their outside voices is just my kind of healthy vibe. Third, I’m always trying to learn more Spanish. I discovered wonderful things with regard to both food and language at Mercado Anton Martin!…
Best Strength Training for Women
Ahhhhh, strength training. That blissful 20 minutes10 minutes time at the gym where I get to sit on an exercise ball, bouncing around and looking at Instagram reading the NY Times on my phone. Sometimes, I like to alternate between sitting on an exercise ball and lying on a squishy “nap mat”, depending on how I feel. What do you mean “that’s not how you do strength training”? Okay, okay, I know that’s not how you do strength training. And I know strength training for women is important. But the PROBLEM is that strength training is BORING. I would rather be bouncing on an exercise ball and inventing clever,…

Multiple Intelligences
High school teachers talk a lot about Professor Howard Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligences. But if you are not a high school teacher, you might not be familiar. Here is the basic idea: In the 1980’s Gardner, a long-time Harvard professor, applied his his Ivy League mind to describing the different ways people convey ideas. As a result, he classified the major types of communication. To this day, his ideas are widely celebrated and used in the education philosophy classes. His efforts are summarized below: Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligences What it means There is more than one way a person can present themselves as intelligent. As a result,…
Interesting Questions for Friday Happy Hour
Here is a universal truth about work: It’s important to have interesting questions for Friday happy hour. Happy hour is a chance to get to know the people that you work with on another level. This, in turn, WILL allow you to work better with them. It is the curse of the Friday afternoon happy hour–the awkward conversation with the boring coworker. Luckily, my co-workers are fabulous (hi, co-workers!) but for those of you not so lucky, happy hour is an important time to be well-versed in your communication skills. No one wants to talk about work and if you don’t have something interesting to say you will just…
