I probably spend too much time on Instagram. Like in a “I’m-worried-I-need-glasses-now” kind of way. Why? You are dying to know!
Why I Spend Too Much Time on Instagram
First, as a teacher of the “pictures-are-the-new-books” generation, I think it’s fascinating how people use social media to communicate with each other. Second, I’m always curious what my students are doing smiling into their laps all day long while they pretend attempt to listen to me. Third, as a single-platform-social-media kind of girl, it’s the only thing I keep on my phone.
So…I spend a lot of time lurking around, scrolling through the photos of people I haven’t spoken to in years my close friends Recently, I decided to try to post more pictures. Add to the community, as they say. I quickly realized several things:
What I Learned
1. People that are “good” at Instagram seem to be so social. Am I allowed to have an instagram about me reading books on my couch? Or what?
2. The pictures I take of food are terrible! Current best attempt below:
Does the Apple store offer a class I don’t know about on this?
3. Some intsgrams are super themed! If I had to come up with a theme for mine it would be “random pictures of outside”. However, I’m trying to branch out. While at the same time being more specific. But shout-out to the people who can do that thing where the pictures are in a pattern on your home page! I appreciate you.
From scrolling through my phone my limited research, it seems instagram is best done off the cuff, without too much concern for what people think. Which is ironic…because I think the whole point is to get people involved in your life…but without trying too hard to seem like you care?
I can see why the whole thing is so appealing for teenagers.
Anyway, maybe it will be good for my poor, neurotic, chronically-unpopular-feeling inner child? Off to try and figure out how to use the Coachella filter! A picture I took this week thinking I might put it on Instagram below to celebrate.
