Lean In

It’s hard to find time to lean in. (Side note: What IS it about stalking ex-boyfriends and random third grade semi-friends on the internet that eats up so much time?  Le sigh.) Anway, in the interest of finding a different, slightly-more-productive internet black hole, I have discovered www.leanin.org As a way of introduction (just on the off chance you were living in a cave when the ‘Lean In’ book came out last spring) let me post some of the author bio from the New York Times book review here: Sheryl Sandberg has been the chief operating officer of Facebook since 2008. At 43, she has already had a storied career:…

2014: Year of Bliss

Shoes are fabulous

Already, not even 20 hours into the new year, I find I am struggling with how to make 2014 my year of bliss. Going out to mimosa brunch and discussing (loudly, in front if small children) how to make the year suck less d*** than 2013 led to some revelations on my part.  I think bliss, much like fabulousness, is a simple question of attitude. In order to have a wonderful year, I need to put on my best heels, smile and get ready to boogie down. When life gets in the way of my fabulous, high-heeled dance party, I need to fall back on my bliss strategies.  What bliss…

New Years Resolutions

Hi readers, I want to talk about New Years Resolutions. Here’s why: First of all, I’m sitting in the airport waiting for a much-delayed flight back to freezing cold NYC and I need something to distract me from watching the poorly-attended-to children wreaking havoc on the terminal. Second of all, it’s New’s Years Day and ringing in the holiday with a peaceful, quiet evening in Florida gave me lots of time to reflect on resolutions of years gone by. I think it speaks volumes that I can never remember my New Years resolutions from one year to the next. It must be because I do such a fabulous job of…

Hoda and Kathy Lee: Queens of Fabulous

Hoda and Kathy Lee in the third hour of the Today Show deserve a place in any conversation about female fabulous. There’s a lot to admire and strive for within their partnership. Here are some of the reasons they are two of my favorite queens of fabulous:  1. They make me laugh.  And not just any old type of laughing, but the kind I like best–“they-are-so-outrageous-in-making-totally-valid-commentary-about-life”type of laughing. 2. They know how to make fun of themselves.  This is a VERY important component of being fabulous. It is NOT fabulous to be a total b*tch on wheels anytime someone brings up one of your shortcoming.  It IS fabulous to understand…

Beach Time

Hi reader, I am on vacation in Florida and I’m feeling all the glory of beach time. I need to get back to my recliner chair, but first five quick things that are fabulous, right here right now: 1. Walking in the sand. I love to spend time walking on the beach-it’s great exercise and the sound of the ocean is so soothing. Also, it turns out horizon lines are very important to provide mental clarity 2. Fishing off the shore. I’m terrible at fishing and I think that’s why I enjoy it so much. I don’t feel pressure to catch anything and I’m free to just let my mind…

The Choice of Fabulous

Hi reader, Fabulous is a choice. It is a lifestyle and an outlook on the world that spreads through the years like butter Nutella Smart Balance on warm bread.  Fabulous is a superpower.  It infuses negative situations with sunshine and happiness. Read the two passages below with their descriptions: 1.  I just turned 30.  I’m single (recently went through a heart-breaking devastation of a break-up and now don’t know if I will ever get married, procreate, etc, thanks for asking).  I live in New York City.  I’m a teacher at a high needs public high school. It’s difficult and exhausting.  I worry endlessly about my students and whether they have enough…

Rhymes with Fabulous: Welcome!

Hi reader, Welcome to Rhymes with Fabulous! Just for your general information, there are not many words I can think of that actually rhyme with fabulous.  Randomness?  Abacus?  Whatever.  The point is, “Stay Fabulous”, “Live Fabulous” (also “Fabulous Live”) and the myriad of other inspiring Fabulous-type titles were taken.  Such is life.  We adjust. We rise above. We stay fabulous.  ‘Rhymes with Fabulous’ focuses on the life and adventures of Caroline Schley. I’m a 30-ish (ahem) teacher and author and I live to find the fabulous in all that I do. I write about my travel experiences and the general quandaries of my life (mostly centered around handling life’s various…
