At this point in the year, I’m usually ready to put up Monday for sale.
When I started working my first full time job, I loved the idea of a Monday morning. It was a fresh chance to start a new week as a responsible adult. This may have been because I came to the weekday 9-to-5 later than most. First, I spent years in school working afternoon shifts. That part felt normal. But then, I spent years after college graduation in seasonal, ski-industry work. Saturdays and holidays were my on-call times. When I switched to a normal schedule, getting up on a Monday morning felt great.
Fast forward to the age of Monday for sale. I’ve been working for almost ten years now. Instead of a fresh feeling on a Monday morning, I get the Sunday blues. But you know me. I try to focus on the positive.
I like to call my Monday morning ideas “Things-I-should-invent-so-I-can-stop-working”.
Here’s the latest edition:
- An app that reads your twitter feed out loud while you are walking and you get the choose the voice. (I choose Kermit the Frog, natch. Fozzie Bear for sports updates.)
- A store where you can rent a puppy in 15 minute increments. (see banner photo)
- An adorable “phone cage” for when you want to go to sleep. Phone is only released with repeated emergency calls.
- A cocktail bar called “Sunday Blues” where we serve chamomile tea spiked with whiskey and you have to wear your pajamas to come in.
- A podcast called “Smoothie” that is a mix of pick up lines and healthy recipes.
Happy Monday!!
