Quarantine Goals

Quarantine goals are a sure way to ward off the boredom that accompanies being trapped in your apartment for 1,864 days at a time. Once I cycled through the other boredom-deflecting activities (AKA naps and re-organizing all closets), I found it was time to settle in and start working on some long-term projects.

It gave a sense of larger purpose to my Netflix-addled days.

In pursuing my quarantine goals, I decided not to order myself a whole new life on Amazon (because, poor Amazon workers!). So, the goals below reflect objectives I can pursue based on the items currently in my possession. After reading, let me know all about your quarantine goals in the comments.

Quarantine Goals 2020

Read every book in our apartment

Turns OUT, there are 152 books in our apartment that I haven’t read yet. My boyfriend teachers history and philosophy, so they include rousing titles such as ‘The Move to Global War’, An Oxford IB Diploma Program Companion and Phenomenology of the Mind‘ by G.W.F. Hegel. If nothing else, I’ll have something to help me along with my naps (see above).

Develop spare change construction skills.

Pretty self-explanatory, I think. I’m going to gather up all the old spare change in our apartment and create small buildings and other structures that reside on the floor and other available surfaces. Possibly a railway system. Because if you have to be stuck inside, you might as well create an obstacle course that helps you sharpen your brain as you navigate your living space.

Study up on virus science

If there’s one thing a biology teacher loves, it’s real world application of course content. And if you guys are sick of hearing about COVID-19, never fear! There are millions of other viruses out there. For example, did you know that scientists use viruses as vectors in gene therapy? Bonus: I get to wear my cool Bluetooth headband when I study.

Acquire skills necessary to fold a fitted sheet

I figure this should take at least two days.

Investigate cork-based craft projects

Somehow, the last few weeks have seen an accumulation of wine bobbers around our apartment. Did you know you can turn the corks into small people? See photo.

  1. Thank you for the great article. Truly there is a lot of stuff we can interact with in our households that waited years lying around. Somewhere there is a puzzle, that I will finish. Also I work on personal projects like my blog.

    1. Thanks for reading, Artur! I wish we had a puzzle : ) Board games have been a nice distraction. Stay safe and healthy and I hope you get some great work done on your blog!
